Getting the basics right is so important, and this is exactly what this classic speaker cable, DALI CONNECT SC F215C, is all about. 38 tightly fitted very pure tinned copper strands housed in a practical and discreet outer shielding. Giving this cable the ability to easily integrate with, both carpet and wood floors along baseboards or ceilings.
True Concentric Stranding By using pure oxygen-free copper, true concentric stranding, and insulating materials with low dielectric properties we ensure a low resistance, low distortion and well shielded path for the audio signal. It is a common theme in all DALI speaker cables to keep all the conductors as tight as possible, while keeping the cable flexible and easy to place. By twisting the conductor bundles around each other in layers, and by changing the direction of the conductors in each layer, ensures that the layer underneath is tightly gripped. This forces every strand in the conductor to be closely packed together and thereby minimises microphonics.
DALI CONNECT SC speaker cables reveal new layers of detail and low-level information, achieving a level of performance normally found only in much more expensive products.
In the ‘DALI CONNECT SC F222C’ premium speaker cable, the 57 2.2 mm2 strands are embedded in a polyethylene (PE) shielding for better mechanical stabilisation, and less dielectric absorption. The flexible white outer shielding matches doorframes, baseboards and walls, and offers the ability to conveniently tack to wooden panels. The ridged structure together with the lower impedance of this cable makes it perfect for piping over longer distances when used for install speaker setups.
Chord Odyssey X uses the same materials as Rumour X. Odyssey’s heavier gauge conductors bring so much more detail and dynamics to a system, along with a degree of control and definition that can transform the performance of both floor and stand mounted loudspeakers. Odyssey was launched in 1998 and set a new standard of performance. It’s neutrality, its compatibility and consistency of performance from system to system made it very rapidly our most popular speaker cable.
Hi-Fi News magazine liked Chord Odyssey so much because of its performance and price that it won the best speaker cable award for five years in a row.
Over the years, changes have been cosmetic only. The current version has a white PVC outer jacket with a diameter of 8mm, still discrete in speaker cable terms and still good enough to let even the biggest of systems sing like they should.
Previous versions of Odyssey speaker cables used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) and until the arrival of Taylon®, this was our “go to” material. Although expensive, PTFE offered the best performance.
Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in all of our ranges, another insulator – XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) came to our attention. One particular version of this material proved to be clearly better than PTFE, so Odyssey X was born.
The conductors used in Odyssey X are also found in Chord Epic and Epic XL speaker cables.
If you’re considering Odyssey X you should also have a listen to the similarly priced Chord Shawline X.
Rayno sits on the board of Directors as a shareholder. He has been with the company since 2003, originally working as an employee in the position of Sales Manager. At that time it was a far smaller enterprise, consisting of 1 branch with 6 staff members. In 2008 the original owner sold the company to the van Heerden family, who officially took over as of May 2008 and have since managed to grow it into what it is today.
Rayno has created and maintained excellent relationships with motor manufacturers.
Thanks to him, Planetworld is a supplier to the likes of Nissan, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Ford, Subaru, Datsun, KIA, Haval and Toyota to mention a few. Along with his team, Rayno sources products then, working closely with the manufacturer, helps develop and customise them to suit the South African market. To date, he has created inhouse brands – OneNav, Planet Multimedia, Smart Mirror and TyreTech. Rayno credits his obsession with service and his dedication to customer satisfaction to his 15-year career as a waiter. He’s always had an adventurous side enjoying hobbies such as hang gliding, skateboarding, surfing and trail running. As per family tradition, Rayno loves his music and plays a number of instruments, even having composed a few of his own original songs.
